Mechanical Filtration -Foam 20ppi -Foam 30ppi -Filtration pad -Pro gressive micro-filtratoin Biological filtration -Bio-Cem Stars -Ceramics Rings Chemical Filtration -Bio-Chem Zorb -Activated Carbon -Zitra-Zorb -Phos-Zorb. Best Answer: Because the water is drawn through the media from the bottom, you will want the mechanical filtration on the bottom. Start with the 20ppi on the lowest level, followed by the 30ppi, then the progressive micro-filtration. Those three are all 'filtration pads', 'filtration pad' isn't an actual layer. ![]() The API Filstar XP-S is an ultra-powerful multi-stage filter designed to produce perfectly balanced, crystal clear water. This highly versatile 250 gph system is easy to use and maintain, and operates so silently it can be used anywhere. Part Number:XPMAN. This is the current multi-language manual included with all API Filstar XP and/or Rena Filstar filters. These manuals are not specific to each model but the instructions for setup are the same for all Filstar models XP1, XP2, XP3, XP4 and API Filstar S,M,L,XL. After the micro-filtration, place the chemical filtration in. Chemical filtration is absolutely unnecessary unless you're removing medications from the water. I would actually suggest that you AVOID BioChem Zorb, Nitra-Zorb, and Phos-Zorb AT ALL COSTS! While BioChem Zorb might be okay, it really serves no purpose, and is a waste of money to replace. Instead of activated carbon, it would be best to fill those allotted areas to biofiltration so you can actually get some use from the filter. After the mechanical filtration, just fill the filter with anything with a large surface area. That could be crushed lava rock, gravel, more foam pads, sand (make sure it can't get to your impeller), crushed pots, ceramic rings, or 'BioChem Stars'-- they all serve the same purpose, and most commercial products are just more expensive varieties of the same thing. Congrats on the filter.sweet. A filter is 20% mechanical and 80% biological. All the 'zorbs' are pointless aswell as carbon. A lot of mechanical filtration will clog your filter, reduce flow around the ceramics not allowing them to do there job well. Look up eheim filters online just to see there media combo's. Its 3 inches special rocks for mechanical then about an inch tall pad thats prob 30 ppi then 8 inches of bio splintered glass then a basic polishing pad( again nothing to fine). That's a killer set up. Clear water doesn't come from super mechanical filtration at all its the bio-support that makes healthy clear water. Super polishing water just causes alot of maintenance and clogged pads. If your running a tank that size consider a HOB for your secondary filter. An aqauclear 30 is mint for that. It will airate your water and the easy access customizable media basket will allow you to tweak your tank w/o disturbing the canister. Bengali mp3 sunday suspense. If you want to add carbon for 3 days a month you can. If you want to add purigen if you have live pants to really clear the water up. Put ceramics in it to boost bio or seed another tank or set up an emergency tank right away. Use the secondary filter for the 20 or 10 ppi pads if you want. That way we can keep an eye on them and not have to tear down the big filter all the time. I have never owned a 20 gallon tank or bigger with a single filter. Aswell the stars you were talking about can only keep 1 of the 3 types of good bacteria you need so there almost pointless. Go with ceramics or splintered glass. Look up eheim filter media (best in the world) help seed the filter with some seachem stability aswell (good stuff) Good luck!! • Tell us some more • Upload in Progress • Upload failed.
